It is a bright
Sunday. Buddhadeb Chaudhuri was sitting on a sofa; his legs were on top of a
wooden table. He was a private detective. He started on the 17th
March 2029.Alas! He did not get a single case. He wanted to solve his case
with a team. So he offered his brother and friend. To join him was a pleasure
for them so they agreed. His brother’s name was Sourav Chaudhuri and his
friend was known as Surjo Sengupta. Sourav and Buddhadeb called him as
Borobhaie as he was elder to them.
“Ding Dong” the
doorbell rang.
Buddhadeb opened
the door. It was his client Neville Dixon.
“Ah! Buddhadeb”
Neville said as he sat on a chair “my case is about statues.”“The statues are
about 2 million years old. Their cost can go up to 95.8 million dollars. On
the day when I was going to give it to the museum, somebody stole it. I heard
a man cry so I followed the man, but unluckily he spotted me and hit me with
the butt of the gun.”
“Will you be
able to identify him?” Buddhadeb asked.
“Alas! He wore a
mask, black in colour. But he had a scar like a lightning on his left palm” he
continued. “The statues are in the shape of a heavenly being in a house like
heaven.
“But heaven has
no shape.”“You said a heavenly being like Krishna” Buddhadeb inquired.
“It is a house.
On it heaven was written. Not Krishna but Jesus Christ.”Neville said.
Buddhadeb told
Neville that he would work on this case when he is free. Neville thanked him
and left. After a few minutes Sourav came out of the bathroom. He wore a blue
shirt and black pants. He asked Buddhadeb about the case. Buddhadeb told
everything in detail.
“Do you think an
archaeologist must have stolen it” Sourav asked.
“For research.
Probably not, it must be a thief because when Neville called, he said he had
found no footsteps on the spot.”
“So what!”
“An
archaeologist cannot wipe the footsteps away.”
“Point, but he
can be a retired thief who wants to earn money by selling it.” Sourav said.
“Hey! Did you
see the movie Players?”
“Yes, I saw it
with you, remember.”Sourav replied.
“You should
remember, policemen retire, but thieves do not.” Buddhadeb said.
“Um, yes right.”
“So let us
contact Borobhaie” Buddhadeb said.
He went towards
the phone, picked up the receiver and dialled 9819912370. He said Borobhaie to
come to his house. After a few minutes Borobhaie entered. Buddhadeb told
Borobhaie the case in details.
“So, it seems to
me like it is not a normal robbery. The robber had a gun so I think you are
right. He should be a robber, not an archaeologist.” Borobhaie said.
“Perhaps a
murderer too’’ Buddhadeb said.
“You can be
right, but.......”
“But what!
Borobhaie” Sourav said.
“The thief must
have been classified. He took the risk of leaving no evidence. But he cannot
wipe all the evidence. He must have forgotten something. Something important.”
“There is only
one evidence. His scar” Buddhadeb said.
“What in the
world will his scar give us” Sourav said.
“God
knows.”“Hey! We should examine the ground, this is 2029. To help detectives
and policeman there is an invisible liquid which oozes out per step. Let’s
find it. Every shoe has its own.”
“It is
invisible. How will you find it?”
“I have special
glasses which allow me to see the liquid. Let us trace it.”
“ Oh!”
“Hey! If the
thief wears American shoes then what!”
“Probably, they
should have a different type of liquid, I think so.” Buddhadeb said.
They went out of
the house and then walked down the street towards Neville’s house. Then they
searched the place with their special glasses but found no liquid. Suddenly
Neville dashed out of his door and Buddhadeb followed. Neville left his door
opened and Buddhadeb asked Sourav and Borobhaie to search the house for the
liquid as he ran past them. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 minutes passed and finally
they find Neville’s shoes liquid. Then they went home. After a few minutes
Buddhadeb arrived and started his COMPAC laptop and started creating a poster:
Cowboy money
All cowboys to come at F-1004 Manavsthal on 26th
March.
Receive money and go back.
Buddhadeb Chaudhuri.
He printed 100
copies then went out and stuck all the copies in different places in Mumbai.
He returned after 8 days. It was 26th March. Some of the cowboys
came. Buddhadeb gave them money and they went back. After some hours a cowboy
came who had a scar like lightning on his hand.
“Ah!” Buddhadeb
yelled.
Two policemen
from the end of the crowd who were dressed like cowboys sprang and caught that
man. He was taken to the police station. Sourav and Borobhaie asked Buddhadeb
how he had solved the case. Buddhadeb took them to Neville’s house and told
them to see the hole carefully and they saw some curve marks.
“They are the
marks of cowboy boots. That day I followed Neville and saw him with a cowboy
with a scar like lightning on his palm which was blood-red. I went to the
local net shop and found information on a scar when hit by some pointed thing.
The answer was dripping of blood. The blood of Neville’s cowboy friend
occurred due to the clash of his boots with his scar that made him shout. Oh!
Yeah! He carried the boots in his hands that is the cause of the absence of
the liquid.”
Buddhadeb
pointed towards a bush where there was cowboy boots. He called the police and
was happy to hear that the statue was found in the cowboy’s house. Thus
Buddhadeb still continues his work as a detective. Now he is a much known
detective with his brother and Borobhaie.
